Oh So Pretty!

Vintage German Glass Glitter is back in stock with some new colors.

And look who's watching over the rest of the new colors...We have a bunch of these skeletons hanging around to watch over the Halloween Glitter! The orange and black are gorgeous together. If you're looking for a skeleton, we've got them and Bob is certainly enjoying the company!

Oh so educational!

Kim Hesson taught her first class at Mystic Paper Saturday. She really taught these ladies tons of technique. We could tell from the messy hands that everyone had a great time!

She does great demonstrations.

Later in the afternoon Caroline taught her Dick and Jane School Book. The class was small but the request for kits is going to keep Caroline busy this weekend. Our teachers are always happy to provide you with a kit if you can't make it to class (if it is a class that is kitable). They will also e-mail you with pictures and instructions. They're just nice that way!

Lot's of cutting and inking in this class!

We appreciate the comments about being closed on Monday. We are going to take your advice and stay home. We did have a request from a group in Tucson to open early on Tuesday morning. We will be open at 8:30 A.M. If anyone else has a request for special hours just let us know! Have a great weekend!

Special classes on Wednesday, September 3rd.

With Creative Escape coming to town we have been asked to have some "special" classes on Wednesday before CE starts. Mike will teach "Old World Journey" on Wednesday morning 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. And what a worldly class it will be. We have already enrolled people from Japan and the Netherlands! There are just two spots left in this class so call quick to sign- up. Take a look at our class descriptions to see what your choices are for this class. That's right, we give you choices! All product is supplied.

After a one hour break Mike will be back at 4:00 P.M. to teach "28 Crowns" Metal Tape and Sculpey Collage.
In this class every student will leave with a completed 6 X 8 metal tape & Sculpey collage. You will be combining several intriguing techniques to create a metallic grand masterpiece. The first technique you'll cover is the basics of metal tape. Using ghost shapes, chipboard, and grunge board you will be taught how to create various textures and dramatic layer effects. We will also cover how to distress your piece and apply color and shadows using a special method. The second technique we will explore is creating exciting embellishments with Sculpey. We will go over stamping, baking, and coloring with this versatile product, after combining the first two on a 6 x 8 wood board. You will then put some added imagery using embossing technique and various rub-ons. To finish- you will add a few rustic touches with metallic pigment and paint. All product is supplied.

These classes aren't just for the attendees of CE. Anyone can sign up! Just give us a call at
(480) 834-0286.

Labor Day, Monday September 1st...

Tell us what you think...Should we be open on Labor Day for you to shop? Or should we take the day off and be closed on Labor Day?

Leave us a comment to help us two Libras decide!

Labor Day has been celebrated on the first Monday in September in the United States since the 1880s. The September date has remained unchanged, even though the government was encouraged to adopt May 1 as Labor Day, the date celebrated by the majority of the world.

Enjoy your leisure time and enjoy your family members, have a happy labor day from everyone at Mystic Paper!

More of the Tea and Silk papers.

Look at what we just received...

And boy do we have a lot of congratulating to do! Let's start with Somerset Holidays & Celebrations. On the cover is a project done by Heather Mellstrom. She is a busy lady but has promised to come teach soon. Heather is also on page 40 with her project "My Heart Has Wings". It's a four page spread so that deserves a huge congratulations! And there's more. Heather is on page 52 with her cover project "Love Notes". Two full pages for that one!

Next on page 64 is our very own Judy Bidwell with her "Love Notes" project. This is a personal favorite because our store challenged Judy to do this project. She did a beautiful job!

We also have two customers that are published in this magazine. Congratulations to Sophann Schleifer. Her "Noel" project got a spot on the cover and her instructions are printed on page 34.
Shannon Sawyers gorgeous "Celebration Tags" project is featured on four pages starting on page 122. Congratulations to both of you!

The next round of congratulations is for everyone published in the September/October issue of Somerset Studios. Let's start on page 10. Quinn McDonald has been writing an article in each Somerset Studio for quite some time now. She is an artist, writer, teacher, and certified creativity coach. And she is going to teach here at Mystic Paper! We will start with a Creative Journaling class. The date hasn't been finalized yet, but we'll get the information out to all of you soon.

On page 36 you will find one of our favorite gals Carlene Federer with "A Poe Halloween". Four full pages of wonderful Halloween projects. Carlene is another talented lady that will be teaching here. Again, the date hasn't been finalized, but trust us, when it is you all will know about it!

On page 100 guess who? Judy Bidwell again! This is her "Awaiting Halloween" project that some of you were lucky enough to have taken this class last year. So cute on that lil' rustic hanger. Turn the page to 102 and there's Judy again with her "Paper Bag Costume".

Wow! Congratulations to all of you. Doesn't Arizona have an amazing amount of talented artists? And we are so fortunate to have so many of you teaching here!

Today we also had our first meeting with our new Design Team! There's Yasu, Lindsey, Sheri and Patty. Thanks for your Sunday afternoon Ladies, we can't wait for all of you to get started.

So what exactly goes on at Mystic Paper on Sunday's?

There's some of this...

How about a beautiful beachy cake!

And a little Cropping and Going Away party for Melody.

Our sweet long-time customer Melody (second from left) is moving away and her friends had this going away crop for her. We're gonna miss you Melody. You really should get a blog before you leave...hint, hint, hint!

Tomorrow is Sunday...

And you know what that means? We're open 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. You know what else is open on Sunday? Inside The Bungalow! Which means there is someplace to eat on Sundays in Downtown Mesa. And, it's not just a place to eat, it is an experience. Check out their food menu and their drink menu. They open early too.

Want to know something else that is going to start happening on Sunday's at Mystic Paper? On Sunday, September 7th, we will have our first Sunday class of the season. Mike will be here teaching "Wrapped Secrets" Exploration of Beeswax and Fabric. In this class
you will be introduced to a very basic technique of beeswax. You will first create a rich collage that tells a story using paper & photos. Then you will wrap the collage using material to create a strong, durable, and ghostly like surface. You'll also use alcohol ink, pigment inks, stencils, waxed linen and embellishments.

Don't let that huge description intimidate you.
This is also a great class for a beginner or an advanced beeswax student that is looking for new technique. How can that be? It's Mike's way of teaching. He is the best, as the rest of the world will shortly find out!

We'll keep you posted on more upcoming Sunday classes!

You recognize the man teaching this class don't you?

That's right...he's Mike...our Mike (well, and the Cats). Why are we asking these questions? Because he has accomplished something that a lot of us only dream of. He's been accepted to go to Ranger U!!!! We are so excited for him, and us! 3 days in New Jersey at Ranger. 3 Days of classes with Tim Holtz, Claudine Helmuth, and Suze Weinberg. Getting to tour the Ranger facility. Who could ask for anything more!

Congratulations Mike! We are all so proud of you!

Here's a look at Mike's class last night. Laurent, who owns Le Studio Salon here on Main St. took the class to make this project for one of his very good customers. Yasu is a great collage artist and wanted to learn the bees wax technique. Yasu is also one of our new design team members. She is here from Japan for (we think one year) with her husband who is working here. She walked into our store and fell in love with mixed media artwork. She is a natural!

We'll post pictures of what they made when Yasu puts her pictures on her blog. We told her I'm going to need them since Jennifer took the store camera home. Yep, she left me cameraless!
